Join us for a relaxed and enjoyable weekend of cooking and books. My friend Aftaab comes to visit and we speak about our experience of walking barefoot on burning coals at UPW with Tony Robbins.
Remember Bertram? My mentor, who I told you about at the New Year Evolution Workshop? He’s the person who introduced me to concept of using a ritual to create personal transformation.
A couple of months ago, Bertram kindly accepted my request to interview him. I wanted you to meet him so you can understand what rituals are more fully: how rituals work, when they don’t work and how to create your own effective rituals so you can achieve the kind of personal growth you want.
New Year’s Resolutions get a bad rep sometimes and for different reasons. Some people say we should love ourselves as we are and stop trying to improve. Some say resolutions are stupid because they don’t work. And others say screw New Year’s; if you want to improve yourself, do it now!
The concept of the Resolution exists because one of our most fundamental human needs is “growth”. We all need to be achieving and expanding our sense of self to be able to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives.
The fact that it happens around New Year’s is just because whenever something comes to an end, it’s a good time to reflect on what was good, what could have been better, and what we want more or less of next time.
Imagine two people who are generally bored in their lives. They go to work, watch tv, go to sleep and do the same thing the next day. They cope with life but they don’t actually enjoy it so much. When you ask these people how they are, they reply with something like, “Not bad” or “Insomma”. Now picture these two people having sex.
Did you see boring, mediocre sex?
Shake that vision out of your mind!
Anxiety is an experience that hits all of us at some point or another. Sometimes it hits us so forcefully that it leaves us wondering what the hell just happened.
